October 2018 Reading List

Better late than never… right? October has been wild thus far, and between work, family, and life, my blog had to take a back seat for a couple weeks. I am hoping to get back into the blogging groove in the next couple weeks, but I make no promises! That being said, if you’re looking for regular updates, I am still sharing my love for books quite regularly on Instagram and Twitter.

SO, WHAT WILL I BE READING THIS MONTH?

I am going to try and be realistic with myself this month (I know, I know, I say that every month!) – with an exciting new teaching job to navigate I am not sure how much time I’ll have to read, so I am under no illusions of believing I will actually be able to finish every book on the below list – even half would be an accomplishment!

  2. Heart of Thorns by Bree Barton (Release Date: July 31, 2018)

July 2018 Reading List

Who else is celebrating the fact that the school year is over? I know I am! I’ve had an amazing few weeks at my first-ever teaching job, but jumping into teaching right after an exhausting (and rewarding) year of Teacher’s College means that I am more than ready for a bit of a break – even if I am still working at camp this summer!

I managed to get a decent amount of reading done in June – I finished several books, including They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera, Onyx and Ivory by Mindee ArnettThe Boneless Mercies by April Genevieve Tucholke, Smoke in the Sun by Renee Ahdieh, and Whisper of the Tide by Sarah Tolscer.

While working at camp means that I am busy, I will not be nearly as busy as I was during school, which means that I am hoping to find myself with a bit more time for reading, reviewing and photography – among other things.

June 2018 Reading List

Hi Bookworms!

After a very busy April and May, I am happy to report that I am now officially done university (next up: Convocation!), and I am now working. While this means that I am still relatively busy, I am hoping to find myself with a bit more time for reading, reviewing and photography, among other things.

I even managed to get a decent amount of reading done in May – I finished several books, including Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian, Stormcaster by Cinda Williams Chima, War Storm by Victoria Aveyard, A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas, The Girl You Thought I Was by Rebecca Phillips, and The Bird and the Blade by Megan Bannen! I am hoping to have reviews available for all of those I haven’t yet reviewed in the next couple weeks, so stay tuned!

May 2018 Reading List

As I am writing this list, I find myself struggling to find the motivation to do so. I have just moved house, and after an exhausting week of packing, unpacking, and re-arranging, I am quite exhausted. On top of that, life has been overwhelmingly busy, filled to the brim with school, lesson planning, work, and the general goings on of life. It’s hard to find this inspiration or any real motivation for a clever new blog post.

Yet here I am, writing another Monthly Reading List.

I’ll be honest with you all (to those of you who actually read these, anyways), I mostly share these lists for my own personal reference, for months from now (when I actually have free time) when I want to go back a read books I missed during the mayhem that is the school year. And let’s be honest – 2018 has been riddled with fantastic YA Fantasy and Sci-Fi releases thus far, not to mention all the Adult Fantasy books that have found their way onto my shelves in recent weeks. I don’t want to miss a thing!

MY MAY 2018 READING LIST IS:

  1. Iron Gold by Pierce Brown (Release Date: January 16, 2018)
  2. Stormcaster by Cinda Williams Chima (Release Date: April 3, 2018)
  3. Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian (Release Date: April 24, 2018)
  4. A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas (Release Date: May 1, 2018)
  5. War Storm by Victoria Aveyard (Release Date: May 15, 2018)
  6. Onyx and Ivory by Mindee Arnett (Release Date: May 15, 2018)
  7. Furyborn by Claire Legrande (Release Date: May 22, 2018)
  8. Legendary by Stephanie Garber (Release Date: May 29, 2018)
  9. The Bird and the Blade (ARC) by Megan Bannen (Release Date: June 5, 2018)
  10. The Girl You Thought I Was (ARC) by Rebecca Phillips (Release Date: July 31, 2018)

This month I am undoubtedly most excited for this month are A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas (Release Date: May 1, 2018) and War Storm by Victoria Aveyard (Release Date: May 15, 2018) – which I have ordered as part of the second ever Indigo Teen Book Box! I’ve included a synopsis of the two books below!

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas (Release Date: May 1, 2018)

Months after the explosive events in A Court of Wings and Ruin, Feyre, Rhys, and their companions are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly-changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it, a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can’t keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated—scars that will have far-reaching impact on the future of their Court.

ACOFAS

War Storm by Victoria Aveyard (Release Date: May 15, 2018)

Mare Barrow learned this all too well when Cal’s betrayal nearly destroyed her. Now determined to protect her heart—and secure freedom for Reds and newbloods like her—Mare resolves to overthrow the kingdom of Norta once and for all . . . starting with the crown on Maven’s head. But no battle is won alone, and before the Reds may rise as one, Mare must side with the boy who broke her heart in order to defeat the boy who almost broke her. Cal’s powerful Silver allies, alongside Mare and the Scarlet Guard, prove a formidable force. But Maven is driven by an obsession so deep, he will stop at nothing to have Mare as his own again, even if it means demolish everything—and everyone—in his path. War is coming, and all Mare has fought for hangs in the balance. Will victory be enough to topple the Silver kingdoms? Or will the little lightning girl be forever silenced?

April 2018 TBR List

I am going to try and keep this month’s list short (even as I type this I know it will undoubtedly get out of control once I start adding books to this list – but it’s the thought that counts, right?). April is without a doubt going to be a crazy busy month for me – I will be entering my final practicum as a pre-service teacher! Crazy, right? But practicum means a busy schedule of teaching, volunteering, and lesson planning, and in my previous experience, this really does cut into my reading time.

That being said, let’s take a moment to acknowledge that my reading time is important – because “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body” (Joseph Addison and Sir Richard Steele). Research has shown that curling up with a good book is not only enjoyable, it can positively impact your mental and emotional health. Reading books, particularly fiction, fully engages the mind and imagination – and transports the reader to a world away, resulting in lower stress levels. And that, in truth, has always been my experience when it comes to reading for pleasure. So while I may be busy with finishing up my final term of post-secondary, I know I’ll find a way to sneak in some reading time!

So what’s on this month’s list? Once again, this month’s list is a collection of books being released in April 2018, some upcoming releases I’ve been lucky enough to receive an Advanced Reader Copy of, and previously released books that I hope to find the time to (finally) read this month!

  1. Iron Gold by Pierce Brown (Release Date: January 16, 2018)
  2. To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo (Release Date: March 6, 2018)
  3. Dread Nation by Justina Ireland (Release Date: April 2, 2018)
  4. Stormcaster by Cinda Williams Chima (Release Date: April 3, 2018)
  5. Isle of Blood and Stone by Makiia Lucier (Release Date: April 10, 2018)
  6. Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody (Release Date: April 10, 2018)
  7. Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young (Release Date: April 24, 2018)
  8. Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian (Release Date: April 24, 2018)
  9. From the Earth to the Shadows (ARC) by Amanda Hocking (Release Date: April 24, 2018)
  10. Song of Blood & Stone (ARC) by L. Penelope (Release Date: May 2, 2018)

This month I am undoubtedly most excited for Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody (Release Date: April 10, 2018) and Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young (Release Date: April 24, 2018) – I’ve included a synopsis of the two books below!

March 2018 To Be Read

Here we are again – another month, another To Be Read List.

But I’ll be honest – life is busy. My TBR list is often out of control. So I have created a physical system to limit my book buying – a “TBR Box”. If the box is full, I can’t buy another book until there is room for it. This is actually working quite well so far! You’ll see my TBR box featured on my Bookstagram now and then (and here it is below – although it’s not holding TBR books in this photo!).

How do you control your To Be Read Books?

IMG_4728

I did pretty good last month – despite how busy February always ends up being, I managed to read nearly all the books on my list (which you can find here). Those that I didn’t quite find the time to get to have been included on this list – here’s to hoping I can tackle this months list just as efficiently (Please note that the below list is based on my own personal interests and release dates in Canada)!

  1. Between the Blade and the Heart by Amanda Hocking (Release Date: January 2, 2018)
  2. Iron Gold by Pierce Brown (Release Date: January 16, 2018)

  7. The Heart Forger by Rin Chupeco (Release Date: March 20, 2018)
  8. From the Earth to the Shadows (ARC) by Amanda Hocking (Release Date: April 24, 2018)
  9. Song of Blood & Stone (ARC) by L. Penelope (Release Date: May 2, 2018)

February 2018 Reading List

I am very excited for February 2018 – some of my most anticipated books for the early part of the year are coming out this month, including Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce (February 6, 2018) and Sightwitch by Susan Dennard (February 13, 2018)! It may be a busy month, but I know I’ll find time to read, because between these new releases and the books still remaining on my TBR, I’ve got tons of good content to get reading!

That being said, for February I’ve put together a list that combines the books I already own with a few upcoming releases that I am excited to add to my TBR pile!

  1. If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo (Release Date: May 3, 2016)
  2. The Last Star Burning by Cailtin Sangster (Release Date: October 10, 2017)
  3. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (Release Date: January 2, 2018)
